Eight Legs on the Road

We are making a series of films investigating and celebrating that particular strain of Englishness which manifests itself in nation of collectors. We'll meet musicians, dancers, and users of the quirkier kinds of transport. We'll find out why only England could produce such dedicated fanatics.

Our current production, Eight Legs on the Road, is presented by the Springer Sisters travelling around in a vintage Riley sports car accompanied by their Springer Spaniel Mellstock, an expert at investigating.
From Morris dance to Rock and Roll jive, Serpents to Theremins, narrow boats to Harley Davidsons, the Springer Sisters have ferreted out the ingredients of a diverse spectrum of music and dance, including the characters involved in it.

We are still looking for interesting people to interview and film for our production.

  • Collectors and makers of instruments
  • Collectors of interesting forms of transport
  • Those who dance traditional or less common forms of dance
  • Particularly those who fit these categories whose interests overflow into their whole life, and especially where the categories overlap.

For example: do you live on a narrowboat and play melodeons or concertinas? Does your band drive around in a 1950's ambulance? Are you a Lindy Hopper who dresses in 40s style as a matter of everyday habit? Do you use horse-drawn transport or unusual bicycles? If you fall under any of these headings, Fiddle Films would love to hear from you.

Presenters: Pamela Wilson, Carole Noakes, Tony Russell.

Production Team: Carol Mackonochie, Tom Frost, Ron Tuur, Hannah Malone.
